Performance workshop - Anna Berndtson

I offer workshops in performance to private groups or institutions that maybe want to make a weekend workshop.

Performance has its origins in the beginning of the 20th century, in amongst others DADA and Oscar Schlemmer (Bauhaus). Although it’s big breakthrough was during 1960s trough Joseph Beuys and Nam June Paik (Fluxus) and in the early 1970s trough Marina Abramovic and Laurie Anderson amongst others. Performance has its roots, both in Germany and in the U.S.A, in Fine Art and Dance where as it in the U.K performance grew out of Theatre. In performance it was the artist him or her self who, with his/her body, became the art piece, presence and physicality became tools and art became immediate.

Perception and observation are key abilities within performance and this workshop will amongst others focus on how we perceive ourselves and others. Exercises in presence and concentration but also physical and spacial exercises are part of the workshop. We will also look at performance history and performance today through looking at what other artists have done and are doing.

This workshop should give the participants insight into performance and an opportunity to create an own performance. The workshop could end with the participants showing their performances.

Maximal numbers of participants are 12, minimum 6.

Duration could vary, but a weekend course, Friday evening to Sunday evening is one example I recommend.
